Oakwood Lanes Supports Veteran Family
Once again, Rob Plenge and the folks at Oakwood Lanes have sponsored a day of bowling on behalf of a Warren County Habitat for Humanity Partner Family. For the third year in a row, Oakwood Lanes was set aside for a few hours on a summer Saturday afternoon for use by Habitat and its supporters. This year, the event benefited the Habitat Veterans Build project.
The bowling event promotes family activity and has thus become quite popular in its three year run. The bowling ball chutes and gutter bumpers allowed the youngest participants to bowl and added to the fun of the day.
Making the Bowling Event Possible
Local businesses by the dozens support this event each year with contributions of money, purchases of lanes, and gifts of prizes. The companies purchase banners with their logos and other messages and display them at the bowling alley. Oakwood Lanes allows the banners to hang in the rafters for some time before and after the event. We urge all of our supporters to patronize these companies that support the Warren County community so well.
Giving the project a funding boost
Money raised at the event will be added to the building fund of the Habitat home currently under construction. Habitat’s goal is to build simple, decent homes. It keeps the mortgage payments on them low by using donated supplies and volunteer labor. Still, it can cost over $100,000 to build a home like this in Warren County.
This event raised over $4,600 which directly benefits the current Veterans Build taking place at 64 Pleasant Valley Road in Washington. Ben Eskow, Executive Director of Warren County Habitat for Humanity was grateful for the support. “We were thrilled to have such a great a turnout of both sponsors and bowlers at this year’s event in support of our Veterans Build. Rob Plenge and the folks at Oakwood Lanes lined up the pins for us, and the community stepped up and knocked them down!”

What is the Habitat Veterans Build?
The parcel of land for the current Habitat home was donated with the hope that it would be used to house the family of a veteran. Bob and Heather and their two children have agreed to be the Partner Family for this project. Heather’s service in the Army National Guard was key to the selection of this Partner Family. The project is part of the Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build Initiative. This program was created to honor our veterans. It has the full support of Habitat for Humanity International and its national Veterans Build Initiative corporate partners.
