OUR HISTORY

In the spring of 1997, a group of concerned people gathered together to explore the possibility of organizing an Affiliate Habitat for Humanity in Warren County. After completing a housing needs assessment and determining that there was a need for affordable housing, the group moved to form a Steering Committee and applied for prospective affiliate status. Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) granted that status to Warren County in February 1998. The next step was to complete an extensive application process for full affiliate status. Many people were involved in the 18 month process to complete the application.

On August 1, 1999, Warren County Habitat for Humanity (WCHFH) received its affiliate status. WCHFH officially became responsible for all aspects of Habitat home building in Warren County, including fund-raising, site selection, family selection and support, construction and mortgage servicing.

Groundbreaking for the first Warren County Habitat home took place in July, 2000 with dedication of that home occurring approximately one year later.

WCHFH Celebrates 25th Anniversary

WCHFH celebrates its 25th anniversary as a Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

24th Home Dedicated

June 15, 2024

Project 24: Franklin Township – 2024 The twenty-fourth Warren County Habitat for Humanity (WCHFH) home construction project for a family of three was dedicated June 15, 2024. This is the sixth of six homes to be built on land donated by Franklin Township.

The HUT Opens

October 5, 2023

The Hand Up Treasures (HUT) store opens at 30 Belvidere Avenue, Washington

Community Center Dedicated

April 6, 2022

The WCHFH Community Center opened its doors to the communities of Warren County.

Community Center Construction Begins

February 3, 2020

The Community Center at 31 Belvidere Avenue, Washington (home of WCHFH office) starts to take shape.

WCHFH Celebrates 20th Anniversary

August 1, 2019

WCHFH celebrates its 20th anniversary as a Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

WCHFH Becomes Veteran Build Affiliate

August 26, 2017

WCHFH is now recognized as a Veteran Build affiliate.

ReStore Moves to Present Location

February 17, 2017

The ReStore is thriving! To gain more space it was moved to its current location:384 West Rt. 57 Washington,NJ

The Store becomes official ReStore

August 26, 2014

The Store became an official Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

WCHFH hired first Executive Director

January 26, 2014

First Executive Director of the WCHFH affiliate was hired.

The Store Opened

May 26, 2012

The Store opens.

Hope in the Hills of Warren Established

June 1, 2009

Hope in the Hills was established to assist the local community with repairs and maintenance of property.  It has served over 250 home owners.

WCHFH Thrift Store Opens

March 5, 2008

WCHFH Thrift Store open.  This was a precursor to the ReStore.

First Home Completed
