Continuing a tradition that goes back to the earliest days of WCHFH, the Beams and Dreams auction event was held on Saturday, April 22. This year’s version of the signature fundraising event raised the bar for fun and philanthropic support.
Centered around dinner at the Hawk Pointe Country Club in Washington, the event featured a live auction with rather unusual items, gift basket raffles, and a 50/50 drawing which paid out $6,000 to the winners. Major sponsors included HFI Truck Center, Elizabethtown Gas, Home Instead Senior Care, Investors Bank, and Eii Electrical Contractors. And magician David Morey captivated those in attendance with his astonishing feats of sleight-of-hand.
Ruthann Brown and Kathy Halpin co-chaired the group that planned the evening. This year, sponsors and donors raised a record amount, more than $38,000, to be used on the next build. Ruthann thanked the sponsors and volunteers so integral to the auction’s success. “We had major contributions this year from corporate sponsors,” she acknowledged. Added Kathy, “our volunteers pushed to the last minute, selling tickets, getting donations and putting together baskets. It was a great team effort.”
The funds come at a particularly timely period this year. “We’re hoping to break ground for this veterans build at Pleasant Valley Road in May,” explained Ben Eskow, WCHFH Executive Director. “Many of the major expenses are front loaded in the build schedule. This gives us a chance to get construction underway almost immediately. Heather and Robert are understandably excited to start working on their home as soon as possible.”
